sorry about the slow reply jesse... you are exactly right about the cork. bottles finished with cork need to be stored horizontally in order to keep the cork moist so it doesn't dry out and shrink up. cork seals on the inside of the bottle neck, which means that when it's dry and shriveled, air gets in and oxidizes (makes the wine flat or even worse, vinegar).

screwcaps seal to the outside lip of the bottle and are airtight. also, the aluminum doesn't dry out like cork, so it does not change its shape.

long story short, store the screwcap however you like.

Hey Dave, here's a follow-up question about aging the Bright Red. Since it's in a screwcap, does that mean it can be stored upright? The old "sideways" rule doesn't apply when there's no cork to keep moist... or does it?

Dylan,

I would say that wine will be singing in about two years but will probably just keep getting better for 3-5 years. It has plenty of acid and tannin, which are the two major factors in a wine's age-ability...

That is an awfully long time though. Good luck sitting on it.

Dave, thanks again for the Bright Red. We tasted it on sunday and I really appreciate the autographed bottle! I'm going to sit on that one, how long should I cellar it?

Jesse, thanks again for the write up. Looking forward to the next hang out session. Maybe sometime early winter after harvest wraps up.

Emily - Nice One! Sounds like a perfect afternoon to me. IV beaches and Jacky J. Thanks for hassling the LAZY acres for me. They need to get on it.

Clearly the majority of this social club's members will have already read the write-up of our most recent evening together... in fact, almost all of them were in attendance.

For any visitors stopping by, click here to get a sense of what exactly transpires when the Municipal Winemakers Social Club gets together and opens a bottle or eight...

Dave! I had a bottle of your Riesling on the beach below the cliffs of IV the other weekend before heading over to Harder Stadium to see Jack Johnson play. Amazing.

P.S. I may have hassled Lazy Acres for not having your wine yet...at least I was able to stop at Wine Cask and get some cold bottles.

Mary, that female's name is Ruth. She is a stern German woman with a heavy accent who has a very deep appreciation for Auslese Rieslings.

She also loves to party.

Jordan, I listened to the broadcast yesterday. Thanks so much for the props!

You guys sounded great talking about the other wines too.
