Ever had that experience where you show up to buy a bottle of your favorite wine, and it's gone? And then, not only is it gone, but nobody can tell you when it's coming back?
Last fall, several LA Winos fell in love with a Trader Joe's find, the 2005 Chariot Gypsy Red Wine (California), which was only around for about a month before it completely disappeared. The '07 just showed up at a few regional TJ's outlets, but it seems to be flying off the shelves as well.

I feel like this is more of a grocery store problem than a "wine shop" problem. At your local wine specialty store, you'll usually be able to find out everything you need to know from the knowledgeable staff. Grocery store staff members can tend to be less informed -- not always, but often -- and sometimes the shelves are stocked with whatever the corporate buyer decides to send them.
Let us know your own horror stories regarding delicious bottles that mysteriously disappeared. Also, if you've seen any Gypsy around, please leave a comment
