For the first time ever, the Winos use the internet.

Winos recently gathered in three chapters -- Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York's Capital Region -- for the first ever Young Winos online tasting. We were joined remotely by Alison Luiz-Gomes and Tempe Reichardt, the winemaker and the importer, respectively, of the 2004 Azamor Red (Alentejano), a bottle of which was tasted by each chapter simultaneously.

06/30/09 - wines for the beach

How is it possible that the LA Winos have never had a “beach wines” tasting? Let’s take care of that oversight right now. Whether or not you plan to visit the shore on the upcoming anniversary of our nation’s independence from Gordon Brown, everyone can agree that “beach season” is definitely upon us. Moreover, our meeting [...]

The Elusive Gypsy: searching high and low for a filthy $5 bottle

Late last year, several members of the Young Winos of LA fell in love with a lady in a red kerchief.  A wine called “Gypsy” threw us into a tizzy for a period of a few weeks, a wine that offered flavors and complexity unheard of at its price point.  Finally, here was a true [...]

The Azamor Online Tasting: the Winos do some drinkin’ on the information superhighway

The Young Winos recently participated in a uniquely modern wine event that simply never would’ve been possible before the invention of the Internet in the early ’70s.  For the first time ever, Winos around the country opened the same bottle at the same time, then logged on to youngwinos.com and live-chatted their tasting notes.  It [...]

06/17/09 - Pinot Noir, in all its versatile glory

One characteristic we all look for in our vino is versatility — the ability of a wine to pair nicely with numerous dishes, with various social situations, with whatever life throws our way. This is especially important in the summer months, when the warming temperatures can entice even the staunchest wino to pine for the [...]

The Winos celebrate drinking culture at the Mutineer Magazine Launch Party

In a recent interview, Mutineer Magazine Editor Alan Kropf characterized his publication as one that reports on fine beverages in a cultural context (as opposed to the market-based focus of most other wine mags).  It’s a fair claim: the pages of Mutineer are indeed devoid of scores and rankings, concerning themselves instead with celebrating drinking [...]

Events Calendar

Some of you may have noticed that our events calendar (in the left hand column) has had some growth recently.  Although all of these events aren't "Young Winos" events we encourage you to check them out and even participate!  Here in LA we love wine events and try to go to as many as possible.  If you do go to a wine event, PLEASE submit your photos and perhaps a review!  See you at the tasting table.
